Madhavan Biography: Madhavan aka Maddy morphed from a communication trainer to an actor as he was entering into his thirties. Affable and voted PETA’s “cutest male vegetarian”, Maddy is enjoying the success of 3 Idiots.

Madhavan
Madhavan was born on 1 June 1970 in Jamshedpur, India to Ranganathan and Saroja. His father was a senior manager at the Bank of India. He has a sister, Devika, who is a software engineer, settled in the United Kingdom.

He has a degree in electronics. While in college, in 1988, he represented India as a cultural ambassador in Canada. He also won the Maharashtra Best Cadet Award and traveled to England with three other NCC cadets. While there he was trained with the Royal Army, Navy, and the Air Force. He didn’t meet the age criteria required to join them.

He shone bright in other areas too like public speaking. He represented India in 1992 at the Young Businessman Conference in Tokyo, Japan after winning the Indian Championship for Public Speaking. He traveled around India teaching communication and public speaking.

He met Sarita, an air hostess, whom he married in 1999. They had a son, Vedant, in 2005.

Madhavan’s popularity has seen him being replicated in mobile games like Madhavan’s MIG and Madhavan.

In 1997, Madhavan got a chance to be part of a sandalwood talc ad shot by Santosh Sivan. He was recommended by Sivan to Mani Rathnam who was casting for Iruvar but wasn’t selected. He started working in television serials like Saya, Tol Mol Ke Bol, Banegi Apni Baat, Ghar Jamai, and Sea Hawk. He hosted the show Deal Ya No Deal on Sony Entertainment in October 2005.

Madhavan’s Movies
1998 to 2000 In 1998 he got a break with Inferno, in which he played an Indian Police Officer. He landed a role in a Kannada movie in 1999 that had Abbas in the lead. The 2000 release Alaipayuthey, a Tamil movie, was a winner all the way. Lakheli which was supposed to be his debut in Bollywood was shelved.

2001 to 2003 Minnale, a romantic comedy, was a success in 2001. It was remade in Hindi as Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein casting him with Dia Mirza and Saif Ali Khan. The movie was an average success.

Mani Rathnam’s award winning Kannathil Muthamittal in 2002 became India’s official entry at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004. It won Madhavan the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. In 2003, he was seen in two movies, Anbe Sivam and Nala & Damayanthi, both of which starred Kamal Hassan.

2004 to 2006 Nothing but Life (2004), an English language movie didn’t do well. Mani Rathnam’s Aayitha Ezuthu had Madhavan playing a hitman Inba that was considered to be brilliant. The movie was remade in Hindi as Yuva but with Abhishek Bachchan playing his role. Madhavan won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.

Priyasakshi in 2005 did well and was dubbed in Zulu. He had a brief but strong role in the blockbluster, Rang De Basanti, in 2006. Thambi and Rendu, also released the same year, were hits.

2007 to 2009 The year 2007 began with the Bollywood hit Guru in which he played Shyam Saxena, a reporter. The character was based on S.Gurumurthy. His movies Arya and Evano Oruvan did pretty well. While Vaazhthugal in 2008 failed miserably, Mumbai Meri Jaan received good reviews.

He gave some promising performances in 2009 like – Guru En Aalu, a remake of Yes Boss, as an army officer in Piyush Jha’s Sikander, Three Idiots with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, and the horror flick, 13B.

2010 Madhavan will be seen with Amitabh Bachchan in Teen Patti. Rituparno Ghosh’s Sunglass with Konkana Sen and Raima Sen and Tanu Weds Manu with Kangana Ranaut are his other releases. He also has a Tamil release, Naan Aval Adhu.

  6. In my personal view founded on an impersonal perspective, the Blogger should seriously think of updating the BLOG which needs , rather deserves, a course correction / a change in direction ! In wishing so, me have in mind the spectacular effect of his movie on the life of the scientist , par excellence, eventually acquitted by the apex court, honorably so ! For the court's judgment makes for a milestone / landmark verdict in the realm of 'criminal jurisprudence'
